Proven 'COTS' NSM-8448 Multiplexer supports concurrent data, video and voice communications

TriPoint Global Communications' NSM-8448 Generation II Nodal Satellite Multiplexer is an Enhanced Tactical Satellite Signal Processor (ETSSP) that delivers cost-effective solutions to satellite communication multiplexing demands. The field-proven NSM is a small, lightweight synchronous time-division multiplexer that provides aggregate interfaces to satellite modems and group interfaces to terrestrial communications equipment.

In its standard mode, the NSM-8448 Generation II is interoperable with and operationally replaces the legacy TD-1337 Tactical Satellite Signal Processor. In its enhanced mode, the NSM-8448 is interoperable with MIDAS, T3 TSST, LMST and GMT equipment. The NSM-8448 permits up to seven communication nodes to be fully inter-connected. The unit provides one multiplexer and up to six demultiplexers to support point-to-point, hub-spoke, mesh and hybrid network configurations. Service reliability has been outstanding as reported by operational units.

Nathan Knutson, Vice President of Government Strategic Programs for TriPoint Global said, " The NSM-8448 is a versatile and proven high performer. The unit has been deployed in many different tactical combat communications environments. Since it is light weight, about 12 lbs, and small, taking up only one rack unit of space, the NSM-8448 is man-portable and ideal for use in TACSAT shelters, shipboard communications, STEP sites, fly-away satellite terminals, and other transportable communication applications."

"The NSM-8448 is available as a COTS product and is ready to ship with typically very quick delivery times," Knutson said. TriPoint Global has delivered more than 200 units during the past three years, which have been successfully deployed in fully functional mobile, tactical and STEP sites. Among the military and government contractors using the NSM-8448 are the First and Second Marine Expeditionary Forces, SPAWAR, the Air Force Communications Agency, the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, the US Army, 7th Signal Brigade, the Naval Engineering Logistics Office, SAIC, JCSE, Harris Corp., L3 Communications and General Dynamics.
