Ku-Band terminals selected for Over-The-Horizon communications; S-Band Link used for oil and gas exploration
General Dynamics' SATCOM Technologies has recently received orders from domestic and international customers with significant multi-million-dollar aggregate value for state-of-the-art troposcatter communications products and services.
A U.S. government contractor has placed orders for four Ku-Band troposcatter communication terminals for overseas applications. The terminals, developed in collaboration with Raytheon's Network Centric Systems, are configured around SATCOM Technologies' proprietary Dual-Beam antenna feed technology, which accomplishes space diversity using a single antenna aperture. The systems will also incorporate VertexRSI TM-20 troposcatter modems and NetMAC Monitor and Control Systems to provide unsurpassed performance and functionality with a very small terminal footprint. The terminals will provide the end user with robust and reliable Over-The-Horizon IP communications up to 20 Mbps.
Woodside Energy, Ltd., a Western-Australia-based Oil & Gas exploration and production company, working in conjunction with Transfield-Worley, has selected SATCOM Technologies to upgrade an existing S-Band troposcatter communications link that connects offshore assets with a shore-based processing plant. The upgrade will boost data throughput capability from the current level of 2 Mbps to 20 Mbps and extend system dynamic range to more than 100 dB, greatly enhancing link performance and availability over the full range of environmental and propagation conditions.
The upgrade includes essentially all terminal electronics, including TM-20 troposcatter modems with full redundancy, 1kW solid-state power amplifiers and integrated NetMAC supervisory Monitor & Control.
Roger Wieting, General Manager of Projects and Technical Services for SATCOM Technologies, said "These recent orders indicate the continuing recognition that SATCOM Technologies' innovative troposcatter communications product line provides a superior means of robust Beyond-Line-of-Sight communications without the use of costly and schedule-limited space segment."
"With transmit and receive performance to 20 Mbps, minimized terminal footprints, IP interfaces, and unmatched supervisory monitor and control functionality, SATCOM Technologies offers the absolute best troposcatter communication solutions in the market today," Wieting added.
